Kristi Peterson’s third graders did some creative writing this spring, and we have two students reading their own creations for KTWH. First up is Ashlyn Blankenship, reading The Three Little Chips and the Big Bad Salsa Man.
And next we have Kenzie Sunday, with The Three Little Rattles and the Big Bad Baby. Sounds like we have a theme going here…
KTWH volunteer John Bathke interviews Katya about this year’s Sea Change adventure on Lake Superior. They talked not long before Katya left Knife River with her family and four interns to do climate change education while circumnavigating the lake in their sail boat. (Pictured are Katya and Mark Gordon, in their element)
On May 5, 2015, Big Dave Anderson of Brimson recorded his program demo (The Beat Farm) with guest musician and friend Kelly Lusk at KTWH’s studio – becoming the first person to actually record anything in the new studio – a landmark day for Two Harbors Community Radio!

When was the last time you heard yourself on the radio?
For most of us it’s been a while, if ever. But Two Harbors’ own KTWH radio station is offering an opportunity for all of us to record their station identification that is required by the FCC at the top of each broadcast hour.
Saturday May 9, from 10am to 3pm, representatives of KTWH will be greeting you at the entry to Super One and inviting you to record the station ID together with your name and any other greetings of your choice (within FCC guidelines of course!) It will also be a chance to learn more about the station and its volunteers. Donations to the station are always welcome and earn a KTWH mug and/or bumper sticker premium, but a donation is not required to make a recording.
Once the station gets on the air this late spring or early summer we’ll be hearing our neighbors and ourselves regularly with each station ID as well as many of us doing our own programs. This would be a great time to submit a program idea or your own program proposal. Information is available at ktwh.org/programs or by writing THCommRadio@gmail.com, calling 834-2247, dropping a note to PO Box 622, TH 55616, or stopping by our studio/office in the Harbor Landing Building.
Meanwhile you can practice the legal station ID: “You are listening to KTWH-LP in Two Harbors, Minnesota”. “LP?” you ask? LP is for low power – KTWH will be broadcasting at 100 watts on 99.5FM.
Since the press release didn’t make it into the papers until last weekend, the steering committee of No-see-um RT has extended the application deadline to Monday, April 27 – so you haven’t missed your chance! Read on…

Coming to Two Harbors Saturday February 28, 7pm at the Harbor Theater!
Two Harbors Community Radio/KTWH is thrilled to bring you a true variety of local talent – music, storytelling and radio theater – at our first radio variety show. We hope this will become a regular event.
Part awareness-raiser, part fund-raiser, the tickets are reasonably priced at $5 to be sure you can come, and the popcorn will be free! But you are welcome to donate what you can to help us get on the air by later this spring.
Several local businesses have signed on as event sponsors for donations of $250 and more (check out their logos on the poster). But businesses may still be acknowledged as supporters for donations of $50 and up – all will be featured in the printed program as well as during the show, which is being recorded for future broadcast on KTWH. All sponsoring and supporting businesses will be acknowledged on our website after the event.
Businesses wanting to be recognized as KTWH supporters in the program should contact us by Monday, February 23, at THCommRadio@gmail.com, at 834-2247, or at PO Box 622, TH 55616. Most days there is also someone in our office/studio in the Harbor Landing building between 1 and 3pm.
We hope this is just the first of a regular schedule of radio variety shows, eventually to be broadcast live on KTWH 99.5fm. But be among the privileged few to witness the birth of a new cultural institution for Two Harbors this February 28!
Two Harbors Community Radio scores! Our carpet dreams come true!
Thanks to April Laakkonen’s scouting skills, Johnson Carpet One’s generosity, Shary Zoff’s pickup truck and Leo Babeu, Larry Ronning and Tom Koehler’s ingenuity and strong backs, KTWH is the happy recipient of 600 square feet of NEW carpeting today! (ask the experts from carpet cleaning grand junction for suggestions on choosing the best for your home) Why 600 square feet when half of our 540 square foot space is already carpeted? It will line the walls and floors of the studio and production rooms for sound deadening. For the best carpets, see the selection at J & D Oriental Rug Co. if you need the best carpets at the best price.
