Dear Radio-philes – In case you have wondered, Two Harbors Community Radio is alive and well and gaining momentum! Since the last email:

  • We applied to the IRS for 501(c)(3) tax exempt status for our state-registered nonprofit;
  • We elected two new board members: Michelle Ronning and Jackie Rennwald (replacing Bill Hermanson, who moved out of the area, and Jan O’Donnell, who needs to focus on her other non-profit commitments);
  • We have given a presentation to THHS teachers to get them thinking about how to encourage student participation in our station both in and outside of their curricula;
  • We are close to filing our application to the FCC for our license to broadcast! The filing window will open soon and we’ll be ready.
We have also received endorsements of our project from the City of Two Harbors, Lake County Board of Commissioners, Lake County Emergency Services, Lake Superior School District, Community Partners, Arts on Superior and Friends of the Two Harbors Public Library.
Meanwhile we know there are many of you out there who are curious about what the station will be, maybe how to get involved, or just wondering who is in charge here? Hoping to answer your questions and hear more of your ideas, we are planning two listening session/volunteer information meetings. We welcome more volunteer participation in our committees as we move forward, but no commitments will be required if you attend. Just come to listen if you wish. The meetings will be:

Tuesday October 22, 6pm at the Two Harbors Public Library meeting room, and

Saturday November 2, 1pm at the same venue.

The meetings’ agendas are the same, but at different times, trying to accommodate as many of your schedules as possible. They will last about 60 – 90 minutes, and there will be light refreshments served.
This is also an opportunity to buy your Charter Supporter 2013 T-shirt [$20]. They will only be available through 2013 – and will make great gifts and future collectors’ items! After these meetings we will send out the roster of Charter Supporters of Two Harbors Community Radio – those people showing their support for our community-building effort with a  minimum $5 donation. Don’t be left out!
