New Year’s Day: Atz Kilcher on Dave’s Beat Farm

Atz Kilcher, perhaps best known in this area as the main character of a successful reality show on the Discovery Channel, Alaska: The Last Frontier,  is also a master storyteller and renowned Alaska folk musician along with recording in the areas of country music and pop.  He will be in Two Harbors on New Years Day and appearing on Dave”s Beat Farm Friday evening. This special episode of the Beat Farm will start at 6:00pm and go until the usual 9:00pm. He is planning to write a song about Two Harbors for his appearance.
He and his first wife. singer Lenedra Carroll, are the parents of Songwriter/Singer Jewel.
Also appearing on the show are Dave’s and Atz’s mutual friends,  Pete Frothingham and Bonnie Rose from Arlington, Washington. Pete and Bonnie are accomplished singer/songwriters and were guests on a previous show recorded in July 2015 (not yet aired). Bonnie of course is a Two Harbors area native.
The link below is Atz and his daughter “Jewel” on (I think) the Grand Ol Opera,  doing the theme song from the show.

When was the last time you heard yourself on the radio?

For most of us it’s been a while, if ever. But Two Harbors’ own KTWH radio station is offering an opportunity for all of us to record their station identification that is required by the FCC at the top of each broadcast hour.

Saturday May 9, from 10am to 3pm, representatives of KTWH will be greeting you at the entry to Super One and inviting you to record the station ID together with your name and any other greetings of your choice (within FCC guidelines of course!) It will also be a chance to learn more about the station and its volunteers. Donations to the station are always welcome and earn a KTWH mug and/or bumper sticker premium, but a donation is not required to make a recording.

Once the station gets on the air this late spring or early summer we’ll be hearing our neighbors and ourselves regularly with each station ID as well as many of us doing our own programs. This would be a great time to submit a program idea or your own program proposal. Information is available at ktwh.org/programs or by writing THCommRadio@gmail.com, calling 834-2247, dropping a note to PO Box 622, TH 55616, or stopping by our studio/office in the Harbor Landing Building.

Meanwhile you can practice the legal station ID: “You are listening to KTWH-LP in Two Harbors, Minnesota”. “LP?” you ask? LP is for low power – KTWH will be broadcasting at 100 watts on 99.5FM.
